User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:58.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/58.0
Build ID: 20180214093410
Steps to reproduce:
Thunderbird 52.6.0 (64-bit) running on Fedora 27.
This bug is not easiliy reproducable, but it occurs more than 3 times a week with daily usage of TB.
During normal operation the adressbook abook.map does not show up in left pane of adressbook function. This can be at startup of TB or it can occure during operation.
A diff of last backed up abook.mpa en the corrupted abook.map showed that some "empty records" were written and sometimes a linefeed for eof misses. The "errors" start from some record that is partly written.
When I deleted the corrupted section of at the end of the .map file, the adressbook is back and functions normally.
I attach the diff of the end of the file so you can see it.

lsof -p pid
lsof -p pid | wc
where pid is the process id of thunderbird

Currently the addresbook is working fine, your requested output:
[bas@bps2 ~]$ date
Tue Feb 27 20:09:59 CET 2018
[bas@bps2 ~]$ ps -A | grep thunder
6950 ? 00:00:11 thunderbird
[bas@bps2 ~]$ lsof -p 6950 | wc
325 2963 38799
I will send output also as soon as I can catch a corruption situation

Just want you to let know:
Since I filed this problem, and I edited the adress files bij hand, i.e. removing "strange" characters at the end of the file, the problem has not returned.
