User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0
Build ID: 20180317145140

Steps to reproduce:

1. Middle click home button

Actual results:

Tab opens and there is no focus on anything, not even the navigation bar

Expected results:

Under Firefox 57 opening a new tab by this method focused the search bar in the middle of the page.

Opening a tab with the + button focuses on the navigation bar, that is working correctly. Ctrl+T is working as expected too.

Aditional details: I'm using Firefox under ArchLinux

@Ed Lee, Could you look into this?

The activity stream page not focusing anything was an intended change related to bug 1417943. Perhaps clicking the home button should focus the address bar (whether middle or regular click).
Component: Activity Streams: Newtab → General
Depends on: 1417943
Flags: needinfo?(edilee)
Summary: middle clicking home button to open a new tab doesn't focus on anything → Focus address bar when clicking home button to load default home page
Address bar is fine, as long as something to input is focused.
I am also having this issue. I agree that address bar should be focused just as + button and Ctrl+T do.

Firefox 59.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows.

It absolutely should focus the address bar just like when you open firefox (with the default home page of about:newtab) or open a new tab.
The current behavior is frustrating to users as many click the home button to type in a search or address & continually find they're typing nothing.
