mysql-python doesn't support python3 and never will. We need to switch to a connector that does. https://github.com/PyMySQL/mysqlclient-python looks like a reasonable candidate.
It might be best to do this after bug 1303424 to avoid making multiple major changes to the database layer at the same time.
