Details

Using may12 pr1 It takes two hits on F9 to toggle the mailnews sidebar to open state. 1. Launch mail with sidebar closed. 2. Hit F9 to toggle it open. Nothing happens. 3. Hit F9 again, sidebar opens.
I have Mozilla 1.0 2002053012 on two PCs. One of them *never* displays the content of the sidebar when opening the browser. It's just a grey rectangle. I too have to press F9 twice to get the content to show. (Once to turn the bar off, then once again to bring it back up.) Yet on the other PC the sidebar comes up with content when Mozilla starts. The two (same) builds were installed within days of each other, though the PCs have very different (but normal) specs. All I can think is that on the problem PC, I previously had Netscape 6.2 installed.
I see the same behaviour that Chris Hester described. I never use my sidebar in Mail, but now every time I open mail it now displays an empty sidebar (no tabs). Hitting F9 closes it, and hitting F9 opens it again, with all the sidebar tabs visible. This is a recent bug, but I'm not sure exactly what build started it.
This behavior has gone away on Win32 trunk build 2002062608.
Possible dup of bug 135070.
