We will support tags only for bookmarks, thus it makes sense to have a single API.

Nice. Now that this bug has been demoted to "practically will never fix" status, I recommend again that you guys simply remove the Tags feature from Firefox. The handful of people that use Tags could migrate to some tagging extension which would be well maintained by an interested developer instead of bit rotting for 15 years. Chrome, Edge, Safari, Opera … none of these browsers have built-in Tags. It seemed like a good idea at the time it was added, but it should go the way of Apple's Touch Bar on their MacBook Pros.

Bookmark tags are one of the biggest advantages Firefox has over other brothers. Sad that it's not maintained properly and bookmark sync extensions can't access them which is why I've given up bookmark synching.

I hadn't thought of that. Maybe Tags and the difficulty of syncing them is a "feature" which locks the few people who continue to use them despite their bit rot into sticking with Firefox :))
