Mail labels and filters are invaluable but in combination IMHO they would be awesome. In Message filters add the ability to perform this action: Label message as Important, Work, Personal etc Thanks shipdoc
It is already implemented. Go to filters ui, then pull down the action menu and see there is already a Label the Message action choice... Marking this worksforme.

I was as clear as I should have been. I agree that both Label the Message and Move to Folder are both present in the same Message Filter drop down menu and the choices are therefore mutually exclusive. The enhancement I was suggesting would enable both actions to be performed independently. In addition to the general drop down menu there would be an additional select Label type Menu. i.e a Filter could move the message to Business folder and highlight it in red to label as important. Thanks shipdoc

Just came across this terminology "Incorporation Filters" and "Display Filters". http://www.mozilla.org/projects/grendel/filters.html from May 1998 - Jamie Zawinski. So to restate my idea the filters would combine two behaviours - one seelecting location etc. the other the display. shipdoc
Well, you can do both things independently -- currently it takes two filters, one with a label action and one with a filter. A message which matches both filters would be labeled first then moved, providing that you have the label action filter first in the list ( we evaluate messages against filters in the order listed in the filter list dialog until it hits a match which causes it to be moved/deleted). If you're asking for multiple actions in one filter, we have a bug for that -- bug 13145. Marking duplicate of that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 13145 ***
