RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 215554

Details

(Whiteboard: [DUPEME to bug bug 215554?])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0
Build ID: 20180704003137

Steps to reproduce:

Converted from Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to Windows 10 Pro.
Installed Firefox 61.0.1.
Set Firefox as the default browser.
Double-click on a pinned website created by Windows 7 and used by IE 11, that is a file with a type of .WEBSITE

Actual results:

Firefox goes into a loop creating window after window.

Expected results:

A new window should have opened with the URL stored in the pinned website. Changing the pinned website's file type from .WEBSITE to .URL causes Firefox to work correctly.

In the Applications category of about:preferences do you have an entry for .website files, set to open either with Firefox or with the default application?

I just set Firefox 61.0.1 as the default browser and it didn't steal the .website association from Internet Explorer. Furthermore, it's not even listed as an option in the Windows 10 Settings window, "Choose default apps by file type" category. This makes sense given bug 605222 and bug 624070.

So you must've manually set Firefox as the handler for this file type it can't handle.

If so, Firefox then asked what it should do with the file, which unfortunately lets you choose to open the file in Firefox (bug 218257). If you do that, you create an infinite loop.

Therefore, I suspect this is a duplicate of bug 215554.
