Steps to reproduce:

Italian lang package + dictionary ius not compatible with Thunderbird 60.
I want to help lang package maintainers to adapt it to Thunderbird 60, so let me know what I have to do to work on it.

Where did you install the language pack and dictionary from? 

Both should be updated and functional, if they're not, it's likely an issue outside of our control.

Preferences -> Composition -> Download More Dictionaries

Mmh the langpack is installed but the GUI is still in English language even if I run Thunderbird with command
./thunderbird -uilocale it
as stated in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Change_Default_Mozilla_Language

No trace instead of Italian dictionary instead

It states that the language pack is compatible with 52.

60 is not available yet as an automatic update for existing users, only for people downloading it from scratch. Not sure what their plans are regarding updating that site.

As for switching the language, you need to create a key 'intl.locale.requested' in Advanced config, and set it to 'it' (both without quotes). It would be much easier to just install the Italian build, if that's an option for you.

What happens if you download the XPI (right click on the install button) from here and install it by dragging it on the about:addons page?

Installing Thunderbird 60 from my Linux distrubution repository, solved the problem
