This was added in bug 1265824, but restricted to Nightly. It's been sitting there for a few weeks, and we haven't noticed any ill-effects. We've, instead, noticed that the browser has become more responsive and that animations have gotten smoother. Bug 1265824 also fixed bug 1453080, allowing tab warming to be enabled by default on macOS.
Markus gave his thumbs up in bug 1265824 comment 227, so let's let this thing ride!
