We will remove the ability to set an opensearch engine as a default engine. They will remain usable as a one-off search via the urlbar UI.
We should probably think about making sure @site search-term works for them as well.
What does this mean exactly? Will opensearch engines be automatically converted to webextensions (like bug 1486820)? What is the goal of this change?
A public announcement regarding this change will be sent out at a later date (soon).
Summary: make opensearch engines only work as one-off searches → Ensure that only WebExtension APIs can set currentEngine/ defaultEngine

Can you, please, point me the link to the public announcement?

I've missed it and i would like to understand the reasons to drop OpenSearch (anything to do with privacy?)...

tks
