User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0 Steps to reproduce: I have filters to auto forward email to another address. Actual results: When the filter finds an email to forward in my incoming mail, I get a pop-up asking for my password for outgoing mail. There is no indication of what the outgoing mail is. Expected results: I think it would be helpful if there was some indication of what the outgoing mail is. I have no idea if it is something from my mail filter or some malware or virus. Some header information or even just the name of the filter initiating the forward would be very helpful, if this is at all possible. Thanks! (I wasn't sure if this was the right component to post under. If I should post it elsewhere, please let me know, and my apologies.)
There's no risk of virus or bad actor autosending a message, except perhaps an add-on, but addons from downloaded from the thunderbird website are reviewed. In which case, Why don't you just have the password saved in thunderbird for outgoing mail? I don't think password manager can know how the email was created. And even if doesn't I don't think we'd want to special case something like this.

Summary: Suggestion - header or filter information before auto forwarding → header or filter information before auto forwarding
Yeah probably not a whole lot we can do here short term. Long term we should change how this works and maybe just put such messages into outbox and notify about that, and avoid such password-on-demand situations. Filters shouldn't be allowed to cause required UI interaction.

> maybe just put such messages into outbox and notify about that Gee, wouldn't it be nice to have bug 511079? Doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar.
