1507013 - Blocking third party cookies from the strict list blocks Google Recaptcha Cookies

When we use Disconnects strict list to classify trackers along with the new cookie policy to block third party cookies from known trackers, we end up blocking cookies recaptcha uses to distinguish bots from humans.  As a result, users sometimes get more recaptcha challenges.  This has not been quantified.

We are still working out our options and proposed solutions to this issue.

Alerting accessibility.  I'm not sure if the issue is worse for screen readers.

FWIW Recaptcha uses an audio recording for accessibility.

Thanks so much for the ping.

The audio recordings Recaptcha uses can be challenging to solve, especially for those with both vision and hearing challenges, although they can be difficult even despite this. However, my understanding is that Recaptcha can present challenges even for fully sighted users. In addition, vision + hearing challenges present a major obstacle for solving Recaptchas regardless of how often they occur. Overall, I don't think this bug has a significant additional impact on accessibility users (beyond its impact on everyone).

With the patches I just posted on bug 1506947, a workaround for recaptcha can be added by setting the following pref:

urlclassifier.trackingAnnotationSkipURLs=google.com/recaptcha/,*.google.com/recaptcha/
