The Find function (Edit | Find in this Page) seems erratic. I have to click several times on the Find button before it works and sometimes it does not work at all.

Reporter, use the the Bugzilla helper to report a bug. What version of Mozilla are you using? Create a new profile. When you use a new profile, can you reproduce the problem? What are the exact steps you take to reproduce the problem?

E-mail from reporter: "Version: Mozilla 1.0 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530. Same problem with new profile. I display a web page in the browser, choose "control F" to open the Find window, enter a word and click OK. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not." WFM Mozilla 1.1 alpha, Windows 98. Reporter, did you install Mozilla to an empty directory?

Reporter's e-mail: "Yes I did: c:\Program Files\mozilla.org." On what web sites does this problem occur?

Maybe this is a duplicate of bug 103484 or bug 127589. Reporter, what did you mean by "Find button?"

Reporter says in e-mail: "I mean the Find function (Edit | Find in this page... | Find dialog box | Find button). "It occurs randomly. Sometimes it does not work on a site then I close Mozilla, open it again and then it works on the same site. Today it has been working all the time and I do not remember the address of the sites where it did not work."

If you see it happen again, note the site. We can't diagnose or fix a bug if we don't know how to reproduce it. A couple of find fixes have gone in recently, so you may find the problem fixed in recent trunk builds.

Try http://c4clan.office.altkom.com.pl/stats/psycho/ On Linux, Mozilla trunk build 2002072421, "Find in This Page" usually works only once, and then is disabled (on that page only) - the command in the Edit menu is dimmed, and the CTRL-F shortcut doesn't work. Confirming bug and changing OS to ALL. teddymaflu: can you test with the URL I've provided? Does it happen to you too?

BTW this bug's component should be XPApps according to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Browser#Search

Apparently I'm seeing a new issue (Linux specific possibly?). I've opened bug 159418 on that.

Test case for this bug? (Mozilla 1.1, build 20020826, Windows 2000) On this page, (bug 151507): 1. Hit <End> to go to bottom of page. 2. Click somewhere on bottom of page. 3. Hit <Home> 4. Hit <Ctrl-f> 5. Make sure "Wrap around" is off 6. Type "bug" and hit <Enter> Result: popup saying "The text you entered was not found." Should the Find function care where you last clicked? -------------- Find wasn't working a moment ago when I looked at some bugs, looked at some other application windows and then came back. The "Find in This Page" and "Find Again" menu items were disabled. Hit "Reload" and the menu items were enabled. Haven't reproduced it.

reporter (Chris), can you reproduce the bug in a newer build?

Reassigning obsolete bugs to their respective Seamonkey owners (i.e. nobody). If you want this fixed for Firefox, change the Product and Component accordingly and reassign back to me.

Re: Comment #12 > Should the Find function care where you last clicked? Yes, it does. This is by design. If that's what you folks have been talking about here, then it isn't a bug at all.
