When analyzing moz-phab's performance recently we determined that Arcanist invocations take up a significant amount of the time to submit a stack of patches.  We used Arcanist in moz-phab originally in order to reduce maintenance burden, as Arcanist's interface is much less likely to change than Phabricator's Conduit API.  However, over the last 1.5 years this API has in fact changed very little, and the improvements to performance by using the API directly should be an acceptable trade-off.
