On the IPF platform, the file extension for plugin libraries is ".so".
This problem has been addressed for Mozilla 1.0 by the fix for bug 106806
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106806
The same change needs to be backported to the NETSCAPE_6_2_2_BRANCH code.

This is actually a dup of http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106806
(well not quite, but the diff for 106806) which has been checked into the
trunk solves this problem.
That bug got a review from myself, serge & Dan Dickerman (?)
