From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1a) Gecko/20020613
BuildID: 2002061308
When using the New Tab button one has to click on the location bar in order to
type the URL. This does not happen if one choses File - New - Navigator Tab or
uses Ctrl+T. When using the any of those 2 methods, after the new tab is created
the location bar gets focus and one can type the URL immediatly.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Click on the New Tab button
2.Try to type a URL
Actual Results: typing the URL wont work. Clicking on the location bar is necesary.
Expected Results: the location bar should gain focus automatically after the
new tab is created.
I am using the modern theme.
Where is the option for a New Tab button? I don't see it under Preferences ->
Navigator with the other ones.

There's a button in recent builds which can't be removed, but given how small it
is I don't think we'll provide a way for it.
I'll come up with a fix for this bug.
Bug 151876 and this bug seem identical. Given that 151876 has already been
marked NEW, perhaps this bug should be duped against it.

1.2alpha will be released around september according to the roadmap.
wouldn't it be easier to get the fix out of the door, being that there is a
patch already? the bug is frustrating for sure.

This bug is present in Mozilla 1.0.1RC2.
From the "Open a new tab" button, and from right click on a
tab and select "New Tab".

Comfirmed fixed in Mozilla 1.1. Forget about the 1.0.1RC2 post.
