Attached image Screenshot of UI error

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Firefox an leave it as the foreground app (window fully expanded)
  2. Put computer to sleep (ie: close the lid on a Surface Pro 4)
  3. Wake computer, pass through login screen (in this case, using Windows Hello/Facial recognition as an authentication method)

Actual results:

Firefox shows a persistent search "suggestion/results overlay" (see blacked out part in screenshot), even though the user did not select the address/search bar. The "suggestion/results overlay" persists even when the user closes/opens a new tab, opens a new window, reduces the Firefox window.

The only way to make the overlay disappear is to close (quit) Firefox and reopen.

Expected results:

Operation should resume as normal (Firefox showing the same UI as when the computer went to sleep).

I tried reproducing this issue with the exact steps you mentioned in str but couldn't duplicate the issue on my Surface Pro 4.

Name Firefox
Version 65.0
Build ID 20190124174741
Update Channel release
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0

Do you see this issue every time with above str?

I have looked into it and determined that the sleeping/waking up is not the issue.

I can confirm that it is the switching off of "tablet mode" that causes the issue to appear.

To reproduce simply toggle on tablet mode and then toggle it off again (you can do so from the "action center", or by hooking/unhooking the type cover depending on the settings) with Firefox opened. The bug was happening because -likely- my surface was cycling through tablet mode as it detected the type cover at login, prompting the bug to appear.

Some notes:

  1. Firefox just needs to be opened for the UI bug to appear.
  2. If multiple "Desktops" are used, the bug will only appear if the tabled mode is switched off when Firefox is opened (ie: was last expanded) on the current desktop.

Note: I will attach an additional screenshot showing the "floating" address bar that appears when Firefox is minimized and tablet mode is toggled off.
