Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0

Steps to reproduce:

Opened a Firefox tab (but sometimes - always? - when a Firefox window exists already) via some external app, e.g. terminal or something that prompts a browser authentication window.

Tried to close Firefox by clicking on the window's close icon.

Actual results:

Nothing - the browser would not close.

Expected results:

The browser should have closed.

The problem may occur only when Firefox is set to hide the OS's titlebar; I am investigating.

OS: Unspecified → Linux
Hardware: Unspecified → x86_64

Tested on Ubuntu 18.04
I followed STR and opened a Firefox tab via terminal and I was able to close the tab as expected.

Can you give me more info on Steps to Reproduce and OS info?

I discover that the problem I have is wider than I reported. For, sometimes, all of this obtains simultaneously: a tab cannot be closed; no tab can load any new page; the 'customise' right-click menu does not appear.

One action that occasions the problem is opening a link - for instance, in a bugzilla e-mail! - in a Thunderbird e-mail. I am unsure whether Firefox needs to be open, and perhaps have another tab loaded, already. I could try to make a video if you point me towards some video recording software. (Mint has an inbuilt .webm video file generator but last I looked it was broken.)

Do you get any errors in the browser console?

(Moving back to Untriaged as there's no indication that this is an event handling issue.)

I can confirm - to an extent; my testing has not been extensive - that the problem occurs only when Firefox is open already.

The console shows this:

Content Security Policy: Ignoring "'unsafe-inline'" within script-src or style-src: nonce-source or hash-source specified
Content Security Policy: The page's settings blocked the loading of a resource at inline ("script-src"). show_bug.cgi:1:1
Loading failed for the <script> with source “https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/static/v20190130.1/extensions/GoogleAnalytics/web/js/analytics.js”.

That suggests that one of my security add-ons is triggering the problem, but it odd that problem occurs only when Firefox is open already.

Disabling ublock origin for https://bugzilla.mozilla.org fixed the problem, except that I may - I am unsure - have the problem for some other sites too.

I do not have the same problem on Windows 8.1 too (as against Linux), though my addOns are somewhat different on the two computers, as are my respective host files.

You need to set devtools.chrome.enabled = true for relevant errors to show up in the browser console.

OK, I've done that. (I had it disabled because, I think, it popped up accidentally sometimes.) But now, even with ublock enabled for this page, the problem is not occuring. Odd.

As per my understanding after setting config to: devtools.chrome.enabled = true
Did the issue go away?

Damira: it did for a while but now, and even with 'devtools.chrome.enabled' set as 'true', the problem has reoccurred.

The problem - I think it is the same problem - is being investigated on the UblockOrigin bugtracker, here: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/416

Moving to Core:Widget , if it's not please feel free to set right component. Thanks you.
For me Not Reproducible.

I think that this problem may be related to a difficulty that some users of the addOn ublockOrigin may be experiencing. See: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/416
