Steps to reproduce:
Pasted a table at the top left corner of my email
Actual results:
I wanted to move the table down and add my message above the table. I was at a lost as to how to complete the this what should have been simple task.
Expected results:
There should be a means of either placing the curse at the top left and on enter moving the table down or the table should be capable of being placed in the top left corner.
A user of thunderbird for a number of years now I would have thought I would have found an answer to this issue by now. Since I haven't I have decided to report it.

Confirmed with Thunderbird Daily 68.0a1 (2019-04-12) (64-bit) on Windows 10 on bugday.
Also, if the message are was completely empty when I pasted the table from my spreadsheet i was also unable to navigate outside the end of the table .

Are any of the bugs in https://mzl.la/2J1DZQy relevant?

Yes, bug 535475 seems to describe the same problem.

Well, there are two workarounds. First: Insert some text/paragraph before inserting the table. Second: Use the ThunderHTMLedit add-on. That will allow you viewing the HTML and adding a new paragraph above the table there.

Let's keep this open as a placeholder bug in Thunderbird, although the actual problem is in Core: DOM: Editor
. Any further duplicates should go to Core bug 1674359.
As recent comments on bug 535475 show, Thunderbird users aren't happy to still be forced into workarounds 12 years after this bug has been recorded (10 years in Core: DOM: Editor
).
I'm trying to get some traction on this in the most recent duplicate, bug 1674359, which has a perfectly reduced testcase and was recently filed by Mirko who's involved in the area, so it has recent activity and the right people on board.

Obviously also relevant for enterprise use cases where inserting tables can be expected more frequently.
