Steps to reproduce: Go to http://chat.yahoo.com Click 'Enter Chat Room' Expected results: Chat applet Actual results: Beachball of death (Mozilla hang) Platform Mac OS X 10.1.5. Mozilla 1.0, MRJ Plug-In 1.0
Here are some previous comments from bug 88870: ------- Additional Comment #119 From Steve Dagley 2002-05-31 19:00 ------- The plugin is 1.0. The Yahoo chat pages work for most (as well as for internal testing). Try bugging the folks at Yahoo. ------- Additional Comment #120 From abrody@smart.net 2002-05-31 19:36 ------- Steve, I've tried to find a place to contact a real person at Yahoo but it seems impossible. But perhaps coming from someone at Netscape maybe they'll listen. ------- Additional Comment #125 From abrody@smart.net 2002-06-02 05:04 ------- Not only http://chat.yahoo.com/ but http://www.instantchess.com/ as well won't work. What happens in both instances with the latest release candidate 1.00rc3 of Mozilla for Mac OS X along with the MRJ Carbon plugin is that it gets stuck trying to load the applet, leaving me with a spinning beachball. It is possible to force quit the browser, but that should not have to be done. If a browser finds an error in code, it should generate an error report. ------- Additional Comment #126 From Steve Dagley 2002-06-03 08:59 ------- Keep in mind the browser simply uses the plugin to pass any Java applet to the JVM built into Mac OS X. No error checking of the code is possible. When you encounter the technicolor beachball of death with an applet use the Sampler app to grab a log of what is happening in the Mozilla process (a 5 second sample should be plenty). Please log a seperate bug and attach the Sampler output if you do that ------- Additional Comment #139 From abrody@smart.net 2002-06-25 09:30 ------- Please do not let this bug be closed until either Yahoo fixes their chat client to work with the release version of Mozilla for Mac OS X, or the Java plugin is able to understand Yahoo's chat in the release version of Mozilla for Mac OS X. And while some pre 1.0 builds of Mozilla and Mac OS X appeared to have fixed the problem, the release builds of Mozilla for Mac OS X and the plugin have the issue reocurring. Thank you.
OJI for easier tracking, may be a potential due of bug 148829, but doesn't block it... clearing.

Just an FYI, this hangs on Windows branch build 2002062608 (JRE 1.4.1_01) but works fine on Linux 2002062606 (JRE 1.3.1_02)
1) I'm currently just confirming with linux redhat 7.3 (branch build: 2002-06-26-06-1.0.0), it also hangs as well. 2) Change from platform MAC OS X to all platforms since it hangs on windows 2k, linux redhat 7.3, Mac os 10.1.5, and Mac os 9.2.2
OS: MacOS X → All
Hardware: Macintosh → All
1)add keyword: nsbeta1 2) I'm also ccing joe chou as well since it also hangs on windows 2k and linux redhat 7.3 3)Chat yahoo applet hangs on Windows 2K (jre 1.4.1_01), linux redhat 7.3 (jre 1.31_02), Mac OS 10.1.5 (MRJ v1.0) 3)old summary: Yahoo Chat applet hangs MRJ Plugin. Hmm....It's strange, it seems the yahoo chat applets load fine on today's netscape branch build (2002-06-27-08-1.0.0) with the following OS except mac os 9: Windows 2k, jre 1.4.0_01 (netscape branch build: 2002-06-27-08-1.0.0) Linux redhat 7.3, jre 1.3.1_01 (netscape branch build: 2002-06-27-06-1.0.0) Mac OS 10.1.5, mrj v1.0 (netscape branch build: 2002-06-27-05-1.0.0) Mac os 9.2.2 (netscape branch build: 2002-06-27-05-1.0.0)--An error occurs, but not hang. Will attach the errors. Can anyone try to reproduce this problem on linux, windows and Mac OS X please?
The comments #11, that the screenshot on os 9.2.2 (branch build: 2002-06-27-05-1.0.0)
It seems there's problem with the attachment on comment #13. Here is the errors occur on os 9.2.2 in java console window: An exception occurred: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: y.ch.0 at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMAppletClassLoader_IMPL.loadClass(JMAppletClassLoaderOld.java) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMAppletClassLoader_IMPL.loadClass(JMAppletClassLoaderOld.java) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMAppletClassLoader_ROOT.loadClass(JMAppletClassLoaderOld.java) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMAppletViewer_OLD.doLoadCode(JMAppletViewerOld.java) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMAppletViewer_OLD.setState(JMAppletViewerOld.java) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMViewerEvent.post(JMAppletViewerOld.java) at com.apple.mrj.JManager.AVDispatcherThread.run(JMAppletViewerOld.java)
Attached file Crash from 2002-06-27
Patty, OS X 10.1.5 Mozilla build 2002062712 OJI Plugin 1.0 Fresh of the disk image mozilla crashed while loading the yahoo chat client (in a tab), second time it hanged (own window).
Risky,I tried on yesterday's netscape branch build (2002-06-26-05-1.0.0) on os X and os 9, it hung but not crashed. Please see this bug: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154507 But using today's branch build (2002-06-27-05-1.0.0 on os 10.1.5, it loads fine, and I am able to chat though. 1. Go to http://chat.yahoo.com 2. Type in your yahoo ID and password. 3. Enter Chat rooms 4. The applets load. 5. You can type something and chat with your friend.
Patty, My comment was in response to your comment 10 using today’s trunk builds... 2002-06-27-12 1.1a (as I don't have access to the Netscape builds you do) I was merely trying to see if I could reproduce the your success with the latest Mozilla trunk. If I follow, the steps in comment 16 Mozilla hangs between steps 3 and 4.
Ummm if I am not mistaken this is a dup of bug 143584 correct?
The stack labeled "Crash from2002-06-27" is a completely different bug. One I've also seen recently while testing. If you look closely at it, you'll note that Java doesn't even show up in the stack crawl. This is, I believe, a DOM Event regression where Mozilla is for some reason trying to pop up a tool tip for the java applet.
On Mac OS X using a recent branch build this WFM. On the trunk I see the same crash that Riscky posted. This is either DOM (where it starts) or JavaScript (where it dies)... unfortunately there have been landings for both recently. cc'ing brendan, but assigning to DOM for further triage.

Riscky, yes, this is a dup of bug 143584.

This bug has morphed into a dupe, which may be inappropriate. The 6/27 crash log is bug 115917. Previous hang logs point to potentially different areas. Back to OJI, with the crasher as a blocker.

Hi Joe, This bug is on the Mac platform which Sun does not supply a plugin for. Can you assign this to someone at Apple, or perhaps Patrick (for MRJ)? - Jim
According to comments 7-9 this is not a mac only bug.
