I just tried changing the home page in IE to www.cnn.com....when I then launched
ProjectX I get cnn as the homepage.

odd, I'm not sure why that would be... Steve is this some IE vs. OS weirdness?

There have been some issues on the Carbon developer list about prefs not
sticking if changes were made with an app that uses InternetConfig running. Try
making sure ProjectX isn't running when the pref change is made. And note that
as of IE 5.2 the home page setting in the Web tab of the Internet pane of the
System Preferences app is no longer used, or edited, by IE.
Greg, ProjectX is the artist formerly known as Chimera :-)
I was changing it in System Preferences. Should I have been changing it in IE?

No, System Preferences is the app you want to use to change settings like home
page and download folder. IE 5.1.x and Entourage (sp?) are reportedly very bad
about overwriting changes made while they are running so I was just mentioning
having other apps open could cause problems.

Ah...I see. Shut down the app. Make the homepage change via the system
preferences. Then, start the app again. Homepage takes. So the problem is that
the homepage can't be change with chimera running.

we only read from IC at startup, so if the app is running, we don't notice until
the next startup.
(This isn't really of critical severity, is it? Looks more like major at most,
and more likely normal.)

With my changes, we request the pref from IC each time we open a new window, but
that still doesn't fix this bug. Quitting and restarting the app does, so it's
the IC bug that Steve mentions. Reducing severity.

WONTFIX since bug 279982 would change this because of 10.3 and 10.4?
Comment 14•20 years ago

As we approach a new way to do this, this bug is invalid. Bug 279982 will "fix"
this.
Simon, this seems like one we should WONTFIX.
