This is reproducible error. After sending one to three e-mails from one of my accounts to another or to someone else, I get a timeout from smtp.comcast.net. Changing port numbers from 465 to 587 makes no difference. This problem started on 16 April, 2019.
Operating system: Windows 10, 64 bit
Currently using Thunderbird: 67.0b2 (32-bit). Using version 60.6.1 makes no difference either.

So this is the first time it has happened?
And hasn't happened after deleting global-messages-db.sqlite ?
This is the link I found this morning: https://windowsreport.com/thunderbird-issues-windows-10/
This file, global-messages-db.sqlite, gets very large quickly. Very little testing on my part, so insufficient data to say for sure if deleting it followed by rebuilding has anything to do with it. My problem with sending and receiving email began on or about 16 May. It soon became clear that Comcast was forcing email client users to IMAP from POP. After that, both receive & send worked for a short time. Now the problem is with sending.
As you know, it's difficult to troubleshoot a sporadic problem.

What antivirus software do you run?
Numbers please on the following:
- How large is global-messages-db.sqlite?
- How large is the thunderbird profile? (in Windows right click profile directory and select properties)
- While global-messages-db.sqlite is growing, are you seeing activity in Tools > activity manager?
Antivirus software: Avast (free); Windows 10 Bitdefender. This is not the problem.
- global-messages-db.sqlite: 9.5 MB at the moment
- TBird profile: 635 MB
- Activity manager: yes; last entry at 2011h UTC-4
Send is working, at the moment.
Update on global-messages-db.sqlite file
Evidently the problem I had all along with setting up a Comcast POP account was due to this file. So, at the moment, both
POP e-mail accounts are working properly.
