1552883 - Can't disable the EyeDropper once it's been enabled

STR:

1. Enable "eyedropper" from the devtools menu.
2. Try to disable it from the same menu.

Unlike bug 1298769 (which might be obsolete now) where merely the checkbox wasn't working, now I can't disable it at all, which is very annoying.

It would be nice for it to work this way for sure. I'm not sure it ever did though. It sounds like this is a regression from what you're saying, but I am not sure it is the case.
The main workflow is :

1. click on the menu item
2. click on the page to sample a color
3. the eyedropper disappears automatically then

I see, then maybe we shouldn't have the "checkbox" icon in the menu. I think that on MacOS X we don't see this checkbox icon when it's not checked, but we do see it on Linux (and maybe on Windows ?).
