Create a new bug id type custom field with a description of say "References". For the reverse description enter "Referred By" or similar. Save the new custom field. In Bug 2 enter bug 1 id in the "References" field and save changes. Bug 2 will show the value "1" for the "References" field. Go to bug 1 and in the detail section you will see an empty "References" field. There should also be a "Referred By" field with the value of "2" populated but the field is not present. These two fields display proper in the old legacy bug form.
