+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1431752 +++
While fixing Bug 1431752 I mentioned that Bug 1297686 was never ported to SeaMonkey. We miss the GIo handlers in the Linux version.

2.53 version. Might need a minor rebease for later trees. When testing I was unable to produce a result adding handlers to the menu. Not sure if I need to try a specific distribution or if it works only with gnome 3 (tested with a kde desktop)?

2.53 version basically identical to 2.57+ but would need a minor rebase right now. r+ a+ from IanN retained.
