RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 57805

People

(Reporter: Prabesh432, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0
Firefox for Android

Steps to reproduce:

Remembering all shortkey is a mess.
We have different browsing experiences, different choice of browser and different habits.

If Firefox allows the user to edit/modify default shortkey, it would have been more faster and sexier experience.

Any hardcore computer geeks and the developers know the importance of shortkey. It makes our work faster.

For example, people who use Netbeans at home and IntelliJ at work, they can't just remember different sets of shortkey in each IDE. Because they don't want to remember. A simple solution for this is that they create/assign their own shortkey.

This is so important feature needless to describe it more. Owing the right to assign shortkey would be a different level of the browsing experience.

This is not only for "Developer purpose" but also for common user. People who have the habit of using Chrome for years, they just can't jump right into Firefox. Because they are used to with all shortkey over their life experience.

Take me for example, I love to delete all history by pressing Ctrl + H, but it's different in Firefox. I have a reflex of pressing Ctrl + H even though I know its Firefox and we can't just delete history that easily.

This is just a real-life example. There are millions of other users like me. If they want to switch to a different browser, they just don't feel good about it.

Actual results:

<>

Expected results:

Please let us customize shortkey.

Help new user of Firefox.

This definitely also helps the old user of Firefox too.

Summary: Let user customize the default short-key of Firefox like how we customize in IDE. → Let users to customize the default short-key of Firefox like how we customize in IDE.

I wonder if "User can edit shortkey" is same as "better keyboard"!
Both are different aspect.
"The better keyboard" is expected from Firefox default keyword.
But my mentioned issue is not that.

Assigning "Core: User events and focus handling" component for it.

Product: Firefox → Core
Component: Untriaged → User events and focus handling

I'll mark this bug as Duplicate of Bug 57805, please feel free to open this bug if you consider it's not relevant to the other bugs. Thanks.
