STR:

  1. Open few tabs with hyperlinks on them
  2. Move pointer/mouse cursor on hyperlink
  3. Switch to next tab with Ctrl+Tab keyboard shortcut
and see that sometimes hyperlink tooltip from old tab is visible in new tab

Reloading completely or clicking hyperlink tooltip doesn't anything.
Moving pointer/mouse cursor over hyperlink from old tab fixes this issue.

I suspect that this regression is caused by bug #1551961 as it started to happen few days ago.

@ Mike Conley (:mconley) - Could you please look at it too? Thanks!

I think the issue is related to bug 1550637

gijs are you still looking at bug 1550637? Do you think this is a duplicate?

gijs are you still looking at bug 1550637?

Yes, the patch got another review earlier today, I'll hopefully update it today/tomorrow. Hopefully it can land soon.

Do you think this is a duplicate?

I don't know. Symptom-wise, it looks very very similar, but the reporter seems very confident this is a recent regression, despite bug 1550637 predating this by a considerable amount of time. Virtual, are you sure this is a regression from the bug you cited?

I'm always very confident in what I write and say, but sometimes in very rare cases I could be wrong in end of course. ;)

I'm suspecting that this bug is also caused by bug #1551961, as it started to happen to me in nearly same time as bug #1563918. Bug #1550637 looks very similar, but it's over 1 month older compared to this one and before I didn't encounter this issue, so I omitted it.

I want to add that this hyperlink tooltip hides when I'm minimizing window, but when I'm maximizing window, hyperlink tooltip shows again.

I have a similar problem on Xubuntu 18.04LTS 64bit (using the corresponding Xfce desktop) with Firefox 69b, 64bit.

Sometimes tooltips just stay even if I switch to other tabs and even if I switch to other virtual desktops. Only when I close the tab which caused the tooltip to appear, it disappears again. However I haven't found a real strategy yet to make it reproducible; they just appear and stick from time to time.

This is definitely new in Firefox 69.0, Firefox 68.0 doesn't cause these issues.

I'm skeptical, because I've seen similar issues on macOS, and Markus is saying they see it on Xubuntu. Bug 1551961 only affects Windows.

Virtual, are you absolutely sure you're unable to reproduce this issue at all in the July 2nd Nightly?

Bug 1550637 is now on autoland. Virtual, when that merges to central, can you see if you can still reproduce this bug?

I'm testing Mozilla Firefox Nightly 69.0a1 (2019-07-02) (64-bit) for 2 days and I didn't encounter this bug, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist there for sure, as this bug happens randomly, but on latest Nightlys I encounter it few times per day.

Sure!

As far as I can tell after using the Nightly of July 17th (Linux64) for a few hours, the problem has disappeared.

Virtual, can you confirm this is fixed for you, too, on current nightly?

Flags: needinfo?(Virtual)

I'm testing it and will I will report back with results after few days to make sure.

I didn't encounter this bug after patch from bug #1550637 landed, so I'm marking this bug as FIXED.
I only experienced what Hani Yacoub saw in bug #1550637 Comment #32, but it's probably Bugzilla issue, not Mozilla Firefox one.
