Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/75.0.3770.100 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

I changed my google password which then required me to change my password for gmail accounts. I researched how to do that and followed the instructions. The first time worked but I returned to also change the outgoing and thereafter neither of the incoming or outgoing for this account show up in the password manager and I cannot get into my email (gmail)

Actual results:

I enter ,y email address and password confirmed in google.com to be correct and the same as I changed it to following the instructions. I was able to enter into password manager and saw the changed password for the account. Then proceeded to remove the outgoing password in preparation for changing it. Got out of Thunderbird. Next entry to my account was not approved as email account or password were not valid. I am about to get a new computer and dread the loss of all my emails as I am currently seeking employment.

Expected results:

IThe passwords should have changed and life gone on as usual. Instead I am not receiving my mail and am not able to communicate unless I go to the browser which is not so amazing as Thunderbird. Please send me detailed solution as I am not a geek and have really messed up my life by faithfully following the instructions to change my password.

I forgot to provide my email address for response: hosrod@gmail.com; hopefully someone can help me to fix my problem. I looked in my Thunderbird to see version and found the last update was 6-20-2019 and elsewhere saw Thunderbird 60.7.2 system requirements and put "60" in as the version...I have no idea if that is correct.

Gay,

Thanks for the info, and yes you got the version number correct. From your description it sounds like its a simple password mix up when you changed things on your gmail account. The good news is that gmail and Thunderbird have no official connection with one another and the connection to gmail's services are for the most part no destructive. So even if you can't access the email through TB the data is still safe and sound, on googles servers.

On to the fielding questions:

  1. What instructions did you follow? Can you share the link?
  2. Did you verify that your email password on google did indeed change and that you are getting into your account via the browser?
  3. how many times have you tried to put in the new password in TB?

Needs more info from reporter
