I started mozilla-evangelism.bclary.com last year since there was not a place on www.mozilla.org to place evangelism oriented content. It has been somewhat useful and currently receives approximately 100 visitors per day from a wide variety of countries. The site however does not really achieve the purpose of enlisting new evangelists or effectively promoting Mozilla. I have not been able to devote as much time as I should to Mozilla Evangelism and in particular to the updating of the site. In addition, due to the setup, only a few people have access to the site and are able to update the content. I think that such content has a place on www.mozilla.org. By making the Tech Evangelism pages available from www.mozilla.org, more people would have the ability to contribute new documents and to update existing documents thereby increasing their usefulness. The current content is built in a very similar fashion to that used on www.mozilla.org. It uses template files with the corresponding NOWRAP, NOMENU cotnrol files etc and could easily be ported to be able to be hosted on www.mozilla.org if that was desired. Any, all or none of the current site can be reused if desired. I would like to ask: 1) is it possible for Tech Evangelism to have a subdirectory somewhere on www.mozilla.org where community oriented material and tools can be published? 2) who would like the job of owning the Tech Evangelism content? Another related issue is the updating of the links on www.mozilla.org which currently point into mozilla-evangelism.bclary.com. Once the content is moved, I will keep the domain available as long as there is significant traffic and point people to the Tech Evangelism pages on www.mozilla.org.
There would also be the issues of the mozilla-evangelism.bclary.com links on other sites and in the search engines. I could probably get those changed when necessary, but beyond that, I feel that I am still too new to do much of the rest here. If necessary, I could help keep the content updated (own the content), but porting the content to mozilla.org with all the CVS stuff would be out of my range still. I can port the documents to moz.zope.org and keep them updated there, but that is a different issue with its own debate. I'll help in whatever ways I can.
Any word on if keeping evangelism related materials on www.mozilla.org is reasonable or does mozilla.org wish to keep the evangelism related materials off of www.mozilla.org? If mozilla.org does not wish to have evangelism related materials on www.mozilla.org, then please mark this WONTFIX so I can make other arrangements. Once we know if it is possible for evangelism to have an area on www.mozilla.org, we can attempt to recruit an owner with the necessary CVS skills/permissions. Unfortunately, Brant may not have the required experience with CVS and I am not clear how to arrange for his training and vouching. Any guidance on how we should handle this would be appreciated.
fixed now. site at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/tech-evangelism/ complaints, comments in bug 175014 please. thanks dawn.
