1571526 - Make it clearer how to sign out of Firefox

I had to google how to log out of Firefox Accounts in order to guess that I do so by disconnecting Sync on Account Settings page.

With the focus on gaining FxA users and with the complexity of FxA log-ins for various products, in addition to the Firefox browser, we must make it clear to a user how he/she can log out of Firefox Accounts.

We need a Sign out option, and one that is not conflated w/ Sync and not buried. It should be within the avatar menu, in addition to with Account Settings page. If one already exists, then we need to surface it.

Thanks; this has been a long-standing point of weirdness that's only going to get weirder as FxA becomes about more things besides Sync.

I'm going to link this under the fxa-desktop-decouple meta Bug 1570565 because I think that decoupling work will make it more obvious how to fix this. We also need to work out what the impact of signing out of Firefox should be, e.g. should it sign you out of various web-based Firefox properties like Send and AMO?

Shane, I know you've been thinking a lot about 'single sign-out' recently, so adding you for context.

For Firefox 71 - we're scoping work on this to updating the about:preferences#sync page to say Sign Out and updating the confirmation dialog to make it clear to the user what is happening. Those changes are part of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1570567.

For future changes to accounts toolbar menu and fxa settings page, deferring to FxA PM, Alex.

I think the improvements we are making in bug 1570567 and bug 1575706 will cover most of this:

• Bug 1570567 is using the term "Sign Out" instead of "Disconnect" for the account on about:preferences#sync.
• Bug 1575706 adds an "Account Settings" panel to the toolbar, and this panel has a "Sign Out..." option.

So for now, I propose we keep this bug open until those other bugs land, then we can see if the concerns raised here have been adequately addressed.

The details in comment 3 have now landed in Nightly, so I think we can call this fixed. Janice, if you think there's still improvements we can make, please describe them against a current Nightly and reopen this.
