As seen with bug 1575415, things are not exactly great. Another problem we have is the long tail of things that still check for 'gtk' in toolkit because we used to have two possible values starting with gtk. The side effect of the latter is that running config/tests/test_mozbuild_reading.py without an objdir fails because 'gtk' in None is not valid.
