GVE (and TRA, I think) know about both extras and configuration files. GV itself merges the two configuration sources. We should remove these accommodations to Fennec.
This came up as part of Bug 1577850.

snorp agrees we should remove support for extras and just use config files.

One reason we might not do this (or at least, not entirely!) is that it's really useful in Android Studio. One can configure environment variables in the Run Configuration easily, much more easily than the configuration files.
