Details

The address bar private browsing mock-up shows that the Search in a Private Window action text should fade and slide in from right to left, though this leaves a series of open questions.

  1. if we think in general we may want to do something like this in the future, it would be better to implement a more general and reusable "highlight a given result" feature in the urlbar. I see us highlighting new features/result types in the future, and maybe those won't have an action text. Do we want to think about a broader highligting behavior (like a border or a background)?

  2. Are we expected to do this always, once, once per session? If we do it always, it may become annoying.

  3. When should the animation start, as soon as the result is added? when the query is complete? There's already a lot of flicker/movement when we add results. If we'd rather use a border or a background that fade away, it may look better than "moving stuff".

Summary: Animate the Search in private browsing action → Animate the Search in private browsing action in the Address Bar

I'd also like to understand how critical is the animation part, because its cost per benefit, compared to the basic feature in bug 1580834, is pending more towards the cost side.

P5 until we get revised UI.
