Environment

• macOS 10.15 Catalina
• Nightly: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/e1a65223d498aa0b8e3e4802d8267db2768073d9

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Firefox
2. Wait 1~10 sec.

Actual Result

• Firefox crashes.
• Firefox sometimes does not crashes. But I have not found the way to concrete way to step to reproduce yet.

I did not face that yesterday (2019 Oct. 07) nightly did not crash immediately.

My experience so far is that this has something to do with using the menu bar. That is, if I go click the Firefox Nightly top-level menu item and look at About, then close About and go back to the main browser window, this seems to be more likely to crash (especially when I do so during startup).

My guess is it is something related to Harry's touchbar work in various bugs in that changeset. Also this bug is now marked sec sensitive because the crash addresses are potential UAFs.

Yep, it's not likely this is a Catalina bug. Instead, it's triggered when new windows are opened. This includes modal windows which is why people are reporting that it's triggered by opening the About modal.

My changeset that caused the crashes tracked in bug 1587351 landed yesterday evening ET so it may have simply been that it happened to coincide with your Catalina update.

I confirmed the latest Nightly build (build id: 20191009103354, includes https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/0c108c06ee6e3173a22578d00bc0f02ab0fb9e31) does not crash.
