  2. try to middle-click, right click, or ctrl/cmd-click the Profile/Edit/Activity/Mail

the links just open immediately

The menu should just consist of plain (styled) links, instead of <li> elements with a click handler - then everything would Just Work. This would also be better for accessibility, as the current items are not exposed as links or interactive elements at all.
