New firefox 70.0.1 freezes when I try to upload any file into slack, gmail, etc

Steps to reproduce:

Macbook Air

  1. Open Gmail or Slack
  2. Create a new email or post
  3. Try to attach a document / upload file to share
  4. The spinning beachball appears and freezes all of firefox, causing a force quit

Actual results:

This never used to happen in the last version. Now in 70.0.1, it happens fairly frequently. I know it's related to cache or cookies filling up. When I go to "history" and clear cache and cookies, it works again for one or two uploads and then repeats the crash cycle. I can't waste time clearing cache / cookies every 30 minutes. I'll be using Chrome until I hear back

File uploads, no crash.

I have tested your issue on latest FF release 70.0.1, Beta 71.0b10 and latest Nightly build 72.0a1 (2019-11-18) and could not reproduce it using Mac OS 10.14 and Windows 10.

If the issue is still reproducible on your end, can you please retest this using latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8), maybe even safe mode (https://goo.gl/AR5o9d), to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause.
Also please type about:crashes in the url and attach the crash report ID here. That will help us investigate.

Hi Alin -

Yes it is still happening to me 2-3 weeks later. I have been relying predominantly on Chrome instead.
I don't think it's a bug / defect as much as a cache issue or cookies issue that changed after this latest release.
Sometimes the attach doc / attach image window opens and works just fine, especially when I have recently opened firefox to begin with.

Yet usually after 1 attachment, the next time I attempt to attach will freeze everything up.
It seems the cache is getting too full too quickly, whereas this does not happen on Chrome.

I have experienced it more than a dozen times. When I clear my cache or cookies, the attachments work again and no freezing for a while. But since it always come back usually within an hour, I've given up on firefox for now.

2EC52394-A7F2-4A25-BF44-E04E14291507 10/29/19, 4:34 PM

All the other "submitted" reports were from long ago. I believe because it freezes on beach (spinning beachball) and I have to force quit, it's not creating a crash report. So I submitted the one from 10/29/19 because this has been happening since then.

From the report, there already has a bug for handling the issue. Thus, I'm going to duplicate the bug. Please feel free to file another bug if you have another crash report with different signature.
