RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1270282

People

(Reporter: jhampton, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/78.0.3904.97 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a "New Message" window
  2. Click on the "From:" address bar
  3. Select "Customize From Address..."
  4. Follow through the prompts
  5. I can now type in ANY email address

Actual results:

I am able to change both the "John Doe" AND "@example.com" portions of the "From" email to anything I want. "For example, if your From address is John Doe <john@example.com> you may want to change it to John Doe <john+doe@example.com> or John <john@example.com>." This is wording directly from Thunderbird.

Expected results:

I should only be able to change the "John Doe" portion of the "From" email. "For example, if your From address is John Doe <john@example.com> you may want to change it to John Doe <john+doe@example.com> or John <john@example.com>." This is wording directly from Thunderbird.

Thank you, Wayne. I noticed that the bug you referenced was reported 4 years ago and is still open. Is this bug still in the process of being fixed?

I think it unlikely that bug 1270282 will fixed - given that so far no support has been expressed by developers that such a feature is desirable.
