Create new account against imap and smtp server (dovecot 2.2.33.2, postfix 3.3.0) with imap p. 143 starttls and smtp on p. 587 (submission port RFC 6409)
The account check hangs forever, although the login password is correct. I tested different settings (auto finding of ports, select correct port 143/587, auto finding auth setting or select plain auth by hand) but without success. It is even not possible to bypass the check.
The login with a current kmail MUA (kmail 5.12.3) on the same server works without any problems.

What is the domain?
Can you supply a test account?

Hi Wayne,
its my own company domain. I can provide a test account on a save channel (threema messenger, signal messenger, OpenPGP mail - what you like...
PS. I managed to get it running (workaround), but the way the automatic check works need some work, I assume ... At least their should be an easier (more intuitive) way to override the automatic checks which will fail with anything else than one of the big mail providers ...

... I can provide login data for a test account, no problem. We can share the data for that either through Threema or Signal messenger or PGP encrypted Mail

walt, would you be willing to test?
Sorry I haven't gotten to this sooner.
Been debating whether I would be willing to test and I don't think it is something I want to do.

OK. The issue changed a bit now: the general problem is, that users are normally forced to use the "automatic setup" way which may work for the "big mail providers", at least in most cases. But if you have another domain and a different imap/smtp setup, the current user guidance is not really helpful. There should be at least a clear and equal selection between manual and automatic setup. It should be possible to override the automatic test if the user really wants to do so and knows the setup of his server. Currently you are always lost if the automatic check fails. I think this is not a really "user friendly" solution.
