Details

(Whiteboard: DUPEME)

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0

Steps to reproduce:

Windows 10
Options > Attachments > Incoming
Select: 'Save files to and select 'Desktop'

Actual results:

Select email to show attachment
If single or selected one attachment:
click on 'Save'
'Save attachment' window opens on This PC > Desktop
states the filename and save as type eg: jpg
It requires a click on 'Save'
Then attachment is saved to Desktop.

If multiple attachments
click on 'Save All'
'Save attachment' window opens on This PC > Desktop
states the filename and save as type eg: jpg
It requires you to select a folder, but obviously there is no 'Desktop folder as it shows all the folders on the desktop but if you click on the top 'Desktop' directory, you are able to save all to Desktop.
Then attachments are saved to Desktop.

Expected results:

The attachments should automatically be saved to Desktop. There should be no asking about where to save.

Additional: Using Thunderbird 68.2.2

I am not using windows 10 My thunderbird is 60.9.1 I can not send photos directly to the desk to even though I have it configured that way i clicked on save all and it did not save to desk top I had to select desktop. why doesnt it go right to the desk top . I have to manully select save to desktop

That option only applies for what to do in the "browsing" case. That is, when you'd encounter a file and have to deal with that.

Whiteboard: DUPEME

it is not being svaed to my desktop
jpgs are not saved to desktop automatically
in window 7

re :That option only applies for what to do in the "browsing" case.

Hi Magnus
In Options > Attachments
'Always ask me where to save files'
This works as expected.

This issue is specific to 'Save files to' click on 'Browse' and select where to auto save files eg: Desktop when I click on 'Save' or 'Save all'.
This does not work. It still asks where to save. It does not auto save without asking.

Anje, does this still fail?

Steps to reproduce:

Windows 10 - now using 91.2.1
Preferences > General > Files & Attachments
Select: 'Save files to and select 'Desktop'

Actual results:

Select email to show attachment
If single or selected one attachment:
click on 'Save' - no longer available - now right click choose 'Save as'
'Save attachment' window opens on This PC > Desktop > hold (which was the last location used)
Need to actually select 'Desktop'
states the filename and save as type eg: jpg
It requires a click on 'Save'
Then attachment is saved to Desktop.

If multiple attachments
click on 'Save All'
'Save attachment' window opens on This PC > Desktop > hold (which was last selected folder)
It will select 'This PC > Desktop' if this was previously manually selected.
states the filename and save as type eg: jpg
However, It requires you to select a folder, but obviously there is no 'Desktop folder as it shows all the folders on the desktop but if you click on the top 'Desktop' directory, so you are now in 'This PC' - you can select 'Desktop' folder.
Click on 'Select Folder' button.
Then attachments are saved to Desktop.

Expected results:

The attachments should automatically be saved to Desktop. There should be no asking about where to save.

Conclusion - this is still the occuring in version 91.2.1 64bit en-GB

Preferences
Config Editor says:
messenger.save.dir C:\Users\User name\Desktop
or
messenger.save.dir C:\Users\User name\Desktop\hold

So this keeps up correctly with last manually selected folder, but it is used by default regardless of whether you select :
Preferences > General > Files & Attachments
Select: 'Save files to and select eg: 'Desktop' - note it can be any folder.
OR
Select: 'Always ask me where to save files'

Test:
Select: 'Save files to and click on 'Browse' and choosing another folder eg: C:\Users\User name\Desktop\Test doc dump
But this is never auto selected until I manually select it when it will update :
messenger.save.dir C:\Users\User name\Desktop\test doc dump
and then that folder is offered but I still have to use 'Save' or 'Select Folder' before any saving is performed - there is no auto saving when I select attachment and click on 'Save as' - note: 'Save' is no longer available in the drop down options.

It is as if the Preferences > General > Files & Attachments - Select: 'Save files to' for auto saving no longer has any functionality because there is only a 'Save as' option when saving attachments.
