From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020618
BuildID: Gecko/20020618

Note that this bug was found on Windows.
When Mozilla is in the background, and another window (say Outlook) is in the
foreground, Mozilla will steal focus when an http equiv refresh reloads the page.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load Mozilla with http-equiv refresh on page
2. Put another window in front
3. Wait and watch mozilla steal window focus (i.e. mozilla window comes to front)

Actual Results: Mozilla steals focus

Expected Results: Mozilla does not steal focus

worksforme, linux build 20020730. do you actually see this with Linux or only
Windows?
Under Moz 1.1 on Windows it appears more fixed - although it doesn't steal
window focus, it does take away keyboard focus from the current app.
Attached file testcase
this testcase does not steal focus for me with linux build 20020731.

if this testcase also works ok for you, could you give a testcase / URL that
exhibits what you're seeing?
Attached file testcase 2
The bug occurs when the page contains a java applet.
I am using Sun JRE 1.4.
Testcase attached.
Summary: http-equiv refresh steals window focus even when mozilla is not in the foreground → http-equiv refresh of page containing java applet steals window focus even when mozilla is not in the foreground
This occurs even when the site is not in the foremost tab.
Is this any way related to bug 130724?
Still not fixed in Moz 1.1 final.
Some sites use Java applets for menus, meaning every five minutes Mozilla claims
focus.
Upping severity from normal to major.
Severity: normal → major
Java applets on web pages containing an http-equiv refresh continue to still
window focus.
See also bug 183103, Java applet steals focus from other parts of the page when
it loads, breaking most keyboard shortcuts.

Not to bugspam this, but there is a filed bug with Sun's Java team regarding
this issue:

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4832148

It basically notes this problem with IE, but it was filed in March of 2003 and
hasn't been touched since.
I'm pretty sure it's this bug that causes yahoo java chat to mess up in
firefox.. when the ad on the bottom of the page refreshes, it steals focus away
from the chat screen (they are in different frames) and suddenly I won't be able
to type.. quite annoying.
This bug is essentially the same as 238824. You don't need java loaded, simply a
page with meta refresh.

Still does not work for me. Also, pages containing Java applets opened in a background tab steal focus from other tabs.
