Details

For January 7th we need a SUMO article that explains that opting out of telemetry will delete telemetry linked to that clientID.

How is the best way to create that content for publishing? Should we start a document to collaborate on?

Joni Chan from the SUMO she can provide a link and keep the article unpublished until after release. Adding her as NI to bug where she can drop the link once it is created.

Here's the link you can use in-product: https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/%VERSION%/%OS%/%LOCALE%/telemetry-clientid

I will work with Alicia on the content.

The [Learn More] link in the most recent Firefox 72.0 Beta opt-out message, "You’re no longer allowing Mozilla to capture technical and interaction data. All past data will be deleted within 30 days." (screenshot) currently takes me to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/telemetry-collection-deletion?as=u&utm_source=inproduct which is a "Page Not Found". Joni, am I right to assume that the [Learn More] link will work on January 7, 2019?

Telemetry Collection & Deletion

Consider using and in lieu of the ampersand:

Telemetry Collection and Deletion

I've updated the link so it's no longer a 404. The article will be published tomorrow morning 8 AM EST.

Correction: we're making it public tomorrow morning but the content is up now.

Please: activation of what? One example might suffice.

I just added this comment to the article discussion (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/telemetry-clientid/discuss/8257#post-19184)

The sentence in question was (incompletely) taken from the Firefox Privacy Note https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/firefox/#health-report, expand section "Improve performance and stability for users everywhere" and go to "Technical data", first sentence. It seems as "activation" in this context means the first use (start) of a Firefox version after it was installed or even the first use of a new profile after it was created.

I too find the simple phrase "Firefox sends data about ... and activation to us" confusing, especially for an KB article where it has to be definitively explained more detailed (to be understood by a "normal" reader) but I think it would be a good idea if the meaning would also be clarified in the Privacy Note.

Submitted a new edit https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/telemetry-clientid/revision/199635
following article discussion post https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/telemetry-clientid/discuss/8257#post-19191 ff. about another questionable sentence "We do not know about your specific interactions with Firefox".

I approved Artist's revision to the article as an interim edit that is not ready to localize. There's another revision pending review. See: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/telemetry-clientid/history

Approved the revision.
