Is there really need for this? There are probably some use cases for multiple instances of the same web app.

That would likely be handled with multiple installs of the same site.
There are definitely use cases. Document-based SSBs such as Google's Docs, Sheets, etc would definitely benefit from having the same SSB opened more than once. In Chrome, you can even press cmd-N when an SSB window is active to just open another window for that SSB.
Sites that expect to only be opened once can warn you. For example Netflix tells you that you can only watch video in one window, but even being able to browse Netflix in two windows can be useful.
