What is the point of the "Offline" function in TB if it doesn't actually take the user offline?

I've posted a fuller entry in bug 106044. I'm not a programmer, so will let others more experienced than me to decide if this is a duplicate of 106044 or perhaps they are similar but subtley different?

I think that auto-disconnect is a serious omission from mozilla / thunderbird. Security is an every-increasing problem. We are exhorted to defend and never leave an open modem line. Please give this a little more priority - if outlook express can provide this, then thunderbird should not fail in this area.

Absolutely my opinion! I could help out with a windows executable that could do the dialup/hangup-stuff, but I am not able to integrate this in mozilla/thunderbird/firefox code. So if you are interested I could do the windows API things, but anyone else have to integrate this into the mozilla code...
sorry for the spam. making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs. filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.
