RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1602726

People

(Reporter: bugzil.la, Unassigned)

Details

(Whiteboard: [support])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

I updated the Thunderbird to ESR 68.3.1 TODAY and opening of links stops to work. After clicking the links, They changed colour to vilet but browser is not run and if browser (Firefox) is opened, there are no new tabs or windows.

Actual results:

Links are not working.

Expected results:

Restore the behaviour of opening embedded links in messages.

Tried re-setting Firefox as the default browser?

Component: Untriaged → OS Integration

I also reinstalled Firefox 68.2.0esr (as default browser) due to next bug in the same update (also 68.3). Please see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1602726
Downgrading of Thunderbird and turning off upgrade helped me (but it isn't solution due to security reasons). The bug is present only in the last version.

I think it is not a coincidence. I'm starting to get tired of Mozilla products. Too many new bugs in basic functions.
if Chrome (and their clones) hadn't been spy users, I'd have changed browser and email client a long time ago.

This all sound more like a bad anti virus that a Thunderbird issue. What are you using in your environment?

I think I should point out that I am using Thunderbird 68.3.1 on Windows 10 and hyperlinks are most certainly working, and opening in Firefox. SO this not working is some edge case, perhaps an anti virus, perhaps a bad add-on.

Do things work if you restart Thunderbird from the help menu with add ons disabled?

Are you running Thunderbird in the same citrix environment you are running firfox in in bug 1602726

I actually think it you in the same environment that this is a dup of that bug.

I re-tested it in the same environment:

Windows 8.1 32-bit,
wj32,
Changed default windows shell (works probably in the same manner as citrix!),
Installed Thunderbird 68.3.1
Installed Firefox 68.2.0

Links not working.

No antivirus, no addons!

Wersion 68.3.0 (!) of Thunderbird doesn't open attachments PDFs (!) but open links.

Please check do you use ShellExecuteByExplorer to open links. If yes, it is the same bug.

Resolution: --- → DUPLICATE

I cannot verify it as RESOLVED because in Thunderbird 64.8.1 links STILL not works and doesn't open browser. Please reopen this bug.

Results:
Thenderbird 68.2.0: Opens attachments and links.
Thunderbird 68.3.0: Opens only links.
Thunderbird 68.3.1: Doesn't open links and doesn't open attachments.
Thunderbird 68.4.1: Doesn't open links but open attachments. (-.-)

It looks, it is NOT dupe of 1602726.

Can you please back to 68.2.0 with opening of links? Did you tested Thunderbird without running Explorer.exe (or with killed Explorer.exe)?

Flags: needinfo?(unicorn.consulting)

Due to clarification in bug 1602726 I cancel needinfo. I will test Thunderbird 68.5.0esr due to this bug.

Flags: needinfo?(unicorn.consulting)

I installed Thunderbird 68.5.0esr and opening links doesn't work!

Attachments (txts/odts) started to work but no action after clicking a link in Thunderbird.

Thus this problem is not fixed.

Please analyze changes between 68.3.0esr and 68.3.1esr.
68.2.0 - links and attachments worked correctly.
68.3.0 - attachments stopped to work (it is other issue solved now)
68.3.1 - links stopped to work.
68.5.0 - attachments started to work but links (anchors) don't.

Please also make test with killed explorer.exe. It probably also help you track the defect.
