From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020729
BuildID: 2002072908
Most noticeble when using Mozilla and I'm saving image or files from web pages,
emails or news groups. I've watched this in the ProcessViewer and the percent of
CPU usage for "LaunchCFMApp" has at times been as high as 92-96% (spinning beach
ball for almost 10-20 seconds, I thought that this is way to long for what my
machine should be able to handle).
I have noticed that if I use another browser (IE, Chimera or Opera,
"LaunchCFMApp" CPU usage is much lower - 17.7%-8.1% and only for a second or two).
What is Mozilla doing that causes the high usage of the CPU? Any user changes to
Mozilla that can be done to lower it?
OS X 10.1.5, 1GHz Dual Processor, 1.5 GB RAM
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Find Image
2. Select "Save Image As" from pop-up windo
3. Select location to save image
4. Watch beach ball spin for 15-20 seconds

WorksForMe using FizzillaCFM/2002080203. I access
[http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/], select "Save Image As" from the contextual menu
on the ant image, select a save destination, and the save operation takes less
than 2 seconds.

Same behaviour with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.1)
Gecko/20020826. Bevor the save-as-window opens, Mozilla freezes aprox. 15 sec.
bevor it opens and the download starts. In this time, Mozilla uses 90% of the
cpu power (k6-2-400).

I have noticed the slowness, to a lesser degree, for quite a while and a number
of versions now.
I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b; MultiZilla
v1.1.33 (b)) Gecko/20030210 on an Athlon 700 w/ Win2K SP3 and 256 Mb of RAM.
I'm in the habit of upgrading for every "release" alpha and beta versions --
only seldom have I downloaded nightlies. This behavior has happened at least
since 1.2x versions, maybe longer.
When I key Ctrl-S, the File/Save dialog open quickly enough, but after I click
on the "Save" button, it takes about 5 seconds (at 95%-plus CPU usage) before
the progress bar flashes momentarily to the screen and control is returned. This
happens regardless of it being a plain text file or a "save file complete" of a
HTML page with images -- IE takes less than 2 seconds to do the same.
I vote for changing the platform/hardware tags of this bug to ALL, since both me
and Christian Vlah have experienced slowness under Windows.
rjthorsen, can you still reproduce this problem using a current nightly build?
Summary: Slow Saving files/images... → Slow saving files/images

I'm now using the Mozilla Application Suite 1.5 final release, my computer RAM
has been expanded to 384 Mb and it still is slow to save files.
Windows 2000 SP4 + Moz 1.5 + 384 Mb RAM + Athlon 700.

related / dupe of bug 208576 ?

For me, bug 208576 seems to be right on the money. I erased the file
downloads.rdf (before loading Mozilla, as instructed) and the delays and
excessive CPU usage disappeared.
