Steps to reproduce:
Thunderbird 60.6.0 did not have this problem on 4/18/2019.
I first noticed the problem on 5/3/2019 after I installed Thunderbird 60.6.1 or a later version. I tend to put 2 blanks after every period at the end of a sentence and I became aware of the problem only when someone replied to my e-mail so that my original text was included in their reply, or if I sent it to myself such as when sending it To: myself and Bcc'ing everyone else. The e-mail that is saved in my SENT folder shows my original text correctly. For example:
Actual results:
my SENT folder shows my original text correctly. For example: <== Original text
my SENT folder shows my original text correctly.?? For example: <== Received text
Note that the 2 consecutive blanks after the period had been replaced by "?? ".
Please don't do this. The recipient thinks that I typed the ?? and makes them think that I doubted the previous line or had some question about it. If I entered 2 consecutive blanks after any other character, it does the same thing, so it doesn't require that the double blanks be preceded by a period.
For example, if I typed the following in the original e-mail:
How are you? I'm fine. <-- Original text
The recipient will see ...
How are you??? I'm fine. <-- Received text
Expected results:
All occurrences of multiple consecutive blanks should not be altered by Thunderbird.
Multiple consecutive blanks are significant when using "Fixed width" fonts and are really important when using character graphics to draw a simple map or image using blanks and normal text.
