Actual results:

clicked on link in any email in Apple Mail, Firefox(default browser) opened 2 windows, one with homepage and toolbar, the other with the link and no toolbar(file, edit, view, history, etc), 2019 MacBook Air, Catalina 10.15.3, was hoping Firefox 73 was going to fix it, but it did not.

Expected results:

email link opens firefox with one window and the linked page as a tab.

Hey Jerry,

Unfortunately i was unable to reproduce this issue you're having on either of the versions Nightly 75.0a1 (2020-02-16), beta 74.0b4 or the release 73.0.
This could be an issue with the default browser settings. You could try reinstalling the browser in another fold, set it as default and see if the issue still occurs.

I have added a component to this issue in order to get the dev team involved. If it's not the right one feel free to change it.

With Firefox closed (not running), I keep getting the 2 firefox windows, one without the menubar when i click emails in apple mail and it opens firefox. Another screenshot attached. I am using my 2019 MacBook Air, Catalina 10.15.3 Firefox 73 (did it in 71 and 72 also). This problem since the first day I purchased my macbook new Dec. 6, 2019.
I do not get this result on my desktop imac OS 10.11.6, Firefox 72 or 73.
Thinking Catalina bug not Firefox.

With Firefox closed, clicking emails in apple mail opens firefox with 2 windows, one without the menu bar as seen in the attached photo. Using my 2019 MacBook Air, Catalina 10.15.3 I purchased new Dec. 6, 2019. Beginning to think its an apple bug.
I do not get this problem with my imac desktop running os 10.11.6 with Firefox 73.0

Severity: normal → S3

FF77.0.1 did not fix.

FF78.0.1 did not fix. Played with settings in neww = did not change 2 window result.

Summary: Links from apple mail open 2 firefox windows, one without a toolbar → Clicking links from apple mail, Catalina opens 2 firefox windows if Firefox is not running.
Version: 73 Branch → 78 Branch

79 did not fix.
I've tried changing settings like browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external, but it makes no difference.

If Firefox is already running, clicking mail link produces a tab as desired, but only if Firefox is already running.
My setting is to open Firefox with one window and clicking links in Firefox to produce new tabs.
Starting Firefox from the dock produces desired result, one window with home page.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Quit Firefox completely.
  2. Click an link contained in an email message using Mac Mail.
    Actual Results:
Two windows are created, one with my home page, one with the link I clicked
