User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:72.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/72.0

Steps to reproduce:

I was using Firefox as normal today. I simply restarted it which led to today's update being installed (V73).

FIX (assumed) : I followed all troubleshooting guidelines (except for refresh) but none worked. Tried version 71 and it worked, until the auto-update to 73 broke it again. Disabled auto-update, so it stayed on the 72 that works. I had to launch Firefox through firefox.exe -p to set my profile and then firefox.exe --allow-downgrade to access my profile (backed it up beforehand). Can't check for corruption but it seems to work fine as long as I stay in V72.

Actual results:

Every web page stays blank and can't be refreshed. Other browsers work as usual.

Expected results:

Normal browsing.

@dslayer: could you test if the issue is fixed in today's nightly test builds?:
https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-nightly

Hi,
I was unable to reproduce this issue on my end, I tried on Windows 7 & 10, with Firefox Nightly version 75.0a1 (2020-02-14) (64-bit) as it was requested.

Does this issue occur with a fresh profile as well? You can find the steps here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

If after doing this you can still reproduce the bug, would you send a video of the bug?

I've already chosen a component for this bug in hope that someone with more expertise may look at it. We'll await their answer.

Regards,
Jerónimo.

I fetched the Nightly Build V75.0a1 and I found no problem, but it installed Nightly aside from regular Firefox, so I'm not certain it wouldn't cause any issue if done via normal update. I was able to import and use my profile and session normally in Nightly, so I expect it to work when the update rolls out.

Last time it went blank upon update from V72 to V73 from the new profile that I was forced to create to be able to launch the V71 I had just installed, so it indeed still happened with a fresh profile. I'll try to reproduce it again and make a screen shot.

When I reproduced the problem, I noticed a few things. Right after clicking the "Update to V73" from the options, the browser seemed to have crashed. When I clicked on the shortcut to launch it again, it gave an error message once, saying that the program didn't start properly. It doesn't seem to give the message on subsequent openings of the browser, just the blank pages.

Then, I noticed that Firefox.exe didn't really stop when it should have. So, I tried to kill it, but now it's even worse. It does start and stop normally but I can do nothing in the browser, getting options and about:profiles stopped working while it was the only type of things that still worked. It didn't seem to save the sessions anymore, either. I'll keep using Knightly for a while.

thank you, so all the circumstantial evidence points towards this being the same issue as described and addressed in bug 1614885, so i'll dupe the report over.
