[this is basically the same bug as bug 1564333, but specifically to track the installer side of the work]

When the stub installer errors out or is cancelled, we link to a page like https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/installer-help/?channel=release&installer_lang=en-US with the appropriate channel and locale filled in, and page then offers to let the user download a full installer with the appropriate channel and locale. As bug 1564333 points out, currently we always offer the 32-bit build on this page, but it should really offer whatever the correct architecture for the machine is. Since the stub is responsible for deciding that, it needs to tell the web page what it decided, and the most straightforward way to do that would be to add another query parameter to the URL.

Just came across this bug whilst triaging some old issues (bug 1564333 to be exact). It's been a while since this has had much discussion, but if we could add an architecture param to the URL when the stub installer opens the installer-help page, I'd be happy to try and work on the bedrock side of what's needed here :)

Might you be interested in revisiting this issue some time, Molly?

Well, I don't actively work on installer stuff anymore, but this should be a pretty easy patch as those things go. So I could whip something up, or someone on the current desktop integrations team might be willing to take it.

Someone on this side can definitely take care of it.

Alex, do you have a preferred timeline in mind?

Alex, do you have a preferred timeline in mind?

The bedrock side of this should be a relatively straight forward task that could be picked up by someone on our team at any time. So no set timeline, happy to work on it whenever it's ready. Thanks!
