This pref will be temporary until we are confident in the implementation and that the feature will not cause too much churn during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pushed by jwein@mozilla.com: https://hg.mozilla.org/integration/autoland/rev/ba54e88de351 Add a temporary pref to disable the OS auth prompt. r=sfoster

Please file the bug to remove the pref so we don't get people trying to get bounty money for something which is intentional.

I have verified if the pref works as expected if it's set to "false" using the latest Nightly 76.0a1 build (Build ID: 20200402095145) on Windows 10 x64, Mac 10.14.6. Here are the results:

  • If the OS authentication prompt is disabled using the pref, the auth dialog is no longer triggered when the "Show Password", "Copy password" or "Edit" button is clicked.
  • However, even if the OS authentication prompt is disabled using the pref, when trying to create a master password the auth dialog is triggered. I have logged this behavior in bug 1626956.

Considering this I will mark this issue as verified fixed and will track the described behavior in bug 1626956.
